Heavy monsoon rains and flash floods recently cut off three remote, low-lying forest hamlets in our district, leaving dozens of families without access to dry wood, groceries, or cooking facilities. Their houses were waterlogged, and local connectivity was severely disrupted.
In response, the Pure Village Cooking team mobilized resources immediately. We loaded our large-scale cooking vessels, portable gas burners (since firewood was damp), rice bags, and fresh vegetables onto a tractor to navigate the flooded routes. We established a temporary relief kitchen on a raised school veranda and began preparing hot, highly nutritious meals for over 350 displaced villagers twice a day.
Sourcing food in flooded conditions is challenging. Here is how we managed:
We cooked a rich traditional rice meal with local vegetables and milk sweets for the children of five village shelters.
Delivering fresh, easy-to-digest traditional meals directly to homebound elders living alone in rural districts.
